Pelosi the Prognosticator: We’re Taking Back the House in 2012

Debbie Wasserman Schultz has nothing on Pelosi’s cheerleading skills.

Via The Hill (emphasis mine):

The former Speaker touted the diversity of the candidates the Democrats have recruited – “two generals, a colonel … legislators, small business people, mayors, many women and minorities” – and noted that the party, despite being the minority, has outraised the Republicans on the campaign trail this year.

We have definitely put the House in play,” she said during her weekly press briefing in the Capitol.

Ah yes, Nancy. That’s why the Dem party got demolished last year— not its progressive policies or your strong-arm legislative tactics in the House, but rather because you didn’t quite have the right balance of diversity in your candidates. Bingo.

The prognosticator continued:

Not to talk money,” she added, “but we outraised the Republicans for the first three-quarters of the year.”

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) reported gains of $6.6 million in September, almost double the $3.8 million hauled in by the National Republican Congressional Committee over the same span.

I suppose it goes without saying that the former Speaker is delusional sorely underestimating the resolve of the American people to boot Obama and his anti-job, anti-prosperity policies out of Washington. There’s no doubt that money plays a huge roll in national politics, but the national party machines are (thankfully) no longer the behemoth king makers that they were just a few election cycles ago. Pelosi is remiss to overlook the hundreds of millions of dollars that came from non-party-committee organizations (like American Crossroads and American Action Network) last year.

I’ll close this post out with a bit of historical perspective— Pelosi’s prediction last year for the 2010 midterm elections. Guess which party she said would come out on top.

Happy Thursday everyone.
